More Than Medicine
Welcome to The Village Vet – a proudly independent, family-owned veterinary practice built on compassion, community and clinical excellence. When Dr. Martine Perkins opened the doors in 2012, she wasn’t just starting a clinic; she was creating a place where pets are treated like family and where every client feels known, supported, and genuinely cared for.
More than a decade later, that heart remains the foundation of who we are.
Our Story: Where It All Began
When Martine founded The Village Vet, she imagined something different from the typical veterinary hospital. She wanted a warm, community-based practice that delivered gold-standard medicine with the friendliness and personal touch of a local village hub.
Her passion for small animal medicine, ultrasound, chemotherapy, and cardiology helped shape the clinic into a trusted medical centre. But her greatest strength has always been connection: mentoring young vets, speaking at local schools, and becoming a familiar face to hundreds of families across the North Shore.
For Martine, every pet matters. Every visit matters. Every story matters.
How We Grew: From Pymble to Killara
The Village Vet began at our original
Pymble clinic in Philip Mall, a warm, welcoming space that quickly became a trusted part of the local community. Pymble has always represented what makes us who we are with personalised care creating strong and lasting relationships.
As our community grew and more families trusted us with their pets, so did our capacity to care. To meet that growing need and to offer even more advanced medical services, we expanded by opening our purpose-built Killara Veterinary Hospital in 2021.
Killara was designed to complement, not replace, what we already offered. It gave us the room and facilities to introduce new services including our Sydney Hyperthyroid Cat Hospital. While Pymble continued to thrive as the friendly, familiar clinic so many locals love, Killara allows us to provide gold standard vet care to more North Shore Pet owners.
Today, both clinics work hand-in-hand:

- Killara — our modern, fully equipped hospital for advanced care and growing services
Together, they reflect the heart and the future of The Village Vet.
A New Chapter With Dr Anabel Thomas
In 2025 the Village Vet entered an exciting new era. Dr Anabel Thomas has joined Martine as a partner, bringing her extensive experience in small animal surgery, her calm and thoughtful approach, and her deep commitment to personalised care.
Anabel has worked across Australia and the UK, and her focus on surgical excellence, teaching, and patient advocacy has already elevated our standard of care.
Together, Martine and Anabel lead with humility, courage and a shared passion for doing what’s right: for pets, for clients, and for the wider community.

Digital Transformation
We’ve transitioned to paperless workflow wherever possible: consent forms, medical summaries, treatment plans, and estimates. Saving more than 6,000 sheets of paper a year.
Recycling & Waste Reduction

- Repurposing packaging for storage & sorting
- Digital client education forms replacing printed brochures
Vet for Climate Change
We maintain an ongoing partnership with VfCA to improve sustainable procurement, reduce waste and continuously refine our clinic’s environmental footprint.

Pets in the Park
Our staff volunteer monthly with this incredible organisation, providing care to pets owned by people who are homeless or at risk. We’re deeply proud to support this work.
