Why Work at The Village Vet?
At The Village Vet, we are dedicated to delivering outstanding care to pets and meaningful experiences for the people who love them. As an independent, award-winning clinic, we provide our staff a blend of clinical excellence, personal wellbeing, and a genuinely positive workplace culture.
When you join us, you become part of a team that values you as a whole person: your skills, your passions, and your goals both inside and outside the clinic. Career growth, collaboration, and continuous learning aren’t extras here, they are the foundation of everything we do.
Our Culture
A Collaborative, Supportive Environment Where You Can Thrive
We believe the best veterinary care happens when our people feel supported, connected, and inspired to grow. Our culture is built intentionally around teamwork, wellbeing, and shared learning.
• Regular staff meetings across all departments
• Mental health days outside the clinic to reduce burnout
• Team-building experiences to strengthen trust and connection
• A calm, low-stress workplace supported by our CEVA Calm Clinic certification
• Celebrations, retreats, and recognition of long-standing team members
• A workplace where every voice is heard and every idea matters
Collaboration isn’t an occasional practice, it’s our everyday standard. From case discussions to shared decision-making, we work together, learn together, and succeed together.

A Strong Support Structure Led by Experienced, Caring Leaders
Our leadership team is deeply committed to helping every team member succeed. We have a clear management structure, so staff always feel supported:

• Customer Care Manager: Taryn
• Team Leads & Mentors
This ensures you are never without guidance, mentorship, or someone to turn to, no matter your role or experience level.
Supportive Systems You Can Rely On
• Monthly role-specific meetings for vets, nurses, and receptionists
• Mentorship for junior vets and nurses
• Open-door leadership culture
• A structured Veterinary Nurse Training Ladder
• Case reviews, patient rounds, and daily collaboration between teams
We are a clinic where you will always feel supported, heard, and backed by your team.

Mental Health and Staff Well-being
We know that veterinary medicine can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding. That’s why we don’t treat wellbeing as a “nice to have.” It’s something we actively prioritise, protect, and build into the way we work every day.
We’ve created a culture where looking after each other is just as important as looking after our patients.
• A dedicated winter wellness retreat focused on mental health, connection, and resetting
• Ongoing support for initiatives like Sophie’s Legacy
• Regular, genuine well-being check-ins with leadership. Not just performance conversations
• Calm handling and low-stress protocols that support both pets and the people caring for them
• Compassionate team debriefs after difficult cases, so no one carries that weight alone
We believe the best care comes from a team that feels supported, understood, and valued.

Our staff volunteer monthly with this incredible organisation, providing care to pets owned by people who are homeless or at risk. We’re deeply proud to support this work.

Anabel
Part owner& Lead Veterinarian
At The Village Vet, we truly believe excellence, support and friendship are part of what makes our workplace unique. As a veterinarian and a co-owner, I feel so proud to be a part of our special team.
Our privately owned practice has modern, fully equipped hospitals in Pymble and Killara and we are passionate about delivering the highest standard of care – not just for the animals and clients who trust us, but also for each other. We are not a corporate juggernaut and nor do we want to be. We are collaborative, experienced and dedicated to our patients and our community.
We are committed to continuing education and career advancement in whichever field interests you. We have vets with further training and experience in medicine, ultrasound, chemotherapy, surgery, Fear Free practice and even hyperthyroid cat radio-iodine treatment.
If you’re looking for a workplace where professional growth, teamwork, and continuous learning are valued, The Village Vet offers fantastic opportunities. You’ll be surrounded by supportive colleagues who share a passion for veterinary medicine and a desire to make a meaningful difference to our wonderful clients and their pets every day.
Taryn
Customer Care Manager
I joined the Village Vet team in 2021 as a veterinary receptionist, and right from the start, I appreciated the supportive and encouraging team culture and the genuine care shown to every pet. Over the past few years, I’ve enjoyed building relationships with our clients and feel a strong connection to the West Pymble community. I take pride in being a reliable, approachable first point of contact for clients, and it’s rewarding to contribute to a team that’s committed to the wellbeing of both pets and their families.
Kylie
Vet Nurse
How has The Village Vet supported your development as a nurse?
Giving me opportunities and support to build & expand technical skills
Working with vets who are generous with their time and knowledge
What do you enjoy most about being part of the nursing team here?
There are many things, but I particularly enjoy being involved in medical cases. As a team, we share knowledge and discuss medical cases which helps all of us build our knowledge.
We’re lucky to have access to advanced equipment and technology that many clinics don’t. This allows us to provide some niche services e.g SCCH. How has this helped you in your role or made your work more rewarding?
I do love the tech we get to work with, it means we get more in depth exposure to more complex cases. We have access to pathology tech that can give us faster diagnosis of certain conditions (eg vcheck, Imagyst) which translates to earlier treatment for our patients (when appropriate). Being able to offer radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroid cats through SHCH is particularly satisfying as it is most often a curative. When we follow up these patients after they go home, it’s great to hear how much they’ve improved.
How would you describe the culture at The Village Vet?
We are a very supportive team. It can be a challenging job but we are all there for each other and it makes all the difference. Collectively, we all want what is best for the patients in our care, it’s why we do what we do.
Liz
Practice Management
How do you approach supporting and developing the team at The Village Vet?
At The Village Vet, supporting our team means making sure every staff member has the tools and encouragement to grow. We actively invest in ongoing training and further education for all of our staff, whether that’s formal courses, workshops, or in-clinic skill development. We also make time for mentoring and constructive feedback so that everyone feels confident in their role and has clear opportunities to progress.
What do you think makes the culture here stand out compared to other workplaces?
Our culture is built on genuine support and collaboration. We work hard, but we also look after each other, and that sense of teamwork shows every day. The Village Vet feels more like a community than just a workplace — we celebrate wins together, help each other through challenges, and make sure everyone feels valued for what they bring to the team.
How do you balance high standards of care with maintaining a supportive and positive environment for staff?
We’re proud of our high standards, but we know that the best care comes from a team that feels respected and supported. We balance this by fostering open communication and making sure expectations are clear, while also recognising the importance of flexibility, including with new parents returning to work, encouragement, and celebrating achievements. This allows us to deliver excellent veterinary care without compromising the wellbeing of our staff.
What do you enjoy most about working with the team at The Village Vet?
The people, without a doubt. I love working with a group of passionate, kind, and talented individuals who genuinely care about their patients and each other. Every day brings something different, and as with all vet hospitals, we have our days that barely stop, but knowing I have such a supportive and dedicated team through thick and thin makes it a real joy to be in this role as practice manager.
Belle
Vet
What do you find most rewarding about being a vet at The Village Vet?
The most rewarding aspect of being a vet at The Village Vet is undoubtedly the team. Each individual brings unique strengths and interests, creating a truly supportive and dynamic workplace. Achievements are celebrated, and professional development is actively encouraged. Our team has the capability and dedication to work up complex medical cases, and we’re supported in doing so by our wonderful clients, who deeply value the health and wellbeing of their pets.
How has the mentorship or collaboration with colleagues supported your professional growth?
I learn something new from my colleagues every day. They are commitment to practicing evidence-based medicine and are extremely diligent with their case management. What I value most is that the team is always eager to learn, regardless of career stage, and there is always someone available to offer support, share knowledge, or collaborate on complex cases.
What kinds of cases or opportunities make working here unique compared to other clinics?
At The Village Vet, we manage a high volume of endocrine cases, which allows us to perform thorough work-ups, deliver tailored medical interventions, and work with our clients in the long-term management of these patients. A truly unique aspect of our clinic is our capacity to treat and cure hyperthyroid cats with radioactive iodine therapy. In addition, some of our veterinarians have advanced skills in ultrasound, including echocardiograms, enabling our patients to receive comprehensive diagnostics and care from the same familiar team of vets, nurses, and support staff.
What makes The Village Vet a special place to work?
The Village Vet is a truly special place to work. Our team is filled with passionate, supportive professionals who make each day both enjoyable and rewarding. Martine, Anabel, and the management team genuinely invest in our wellbeing, ensuring we thrive both professionally and personally. Our staff consistently go above and beyond to provide the highest standard of care for our patients at every life stage, keeping the needs of our clients and patients at the forefront of every clinical
