Medicine & Diagnostics
Veterinary medicine encompasses a large number of disciplines. The Village Vet is fully equipped with on-site diagnostic equipment that includes but not limited to: pathology, endoscopy, rhinoscopy and bronchoscopy, diagnostic radiology (x-ray), ultrasound (abdominal and echocardiography) and Pregnancy Ultrasonography.
Our staff – both Veterinarians and Vet Nurses – undergo full training and continuous Professional Development courses for both the use of our equipment and also the interpretation of the test results from our medical equipment.
Critical to your pet’s healthcare is, however, is a detailed history from you, about changes you have noticed in your pet. Nobody knows your pet as well as you do yourself. We highly appreciate your input in keeping your pet healthy and happy.
Pathology
The Village Vet have comprehensive in-house pathology laboratories, where we run a haematology and biochemical blood analysis, blood smears, urinalysis and cytology testing.
Our Imagyst machines use technology that can read and interpret blood, faecal and digital cytology test results in minutes, in-house, rather than waiting days for external testing to be returned. This means The Village Vet veterinarians can make important treatment decisions sooner and provide treatment plans during a single consult.
Endoscopy, Rhinoscopy and Bronchoscopy
We have a range of endoscopy equipment for bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy and endoscopy. The Village Vet’s Endoscopy equipment, a range of miniature fibre-optic cameras and rigid scopes allows us to look with a camera in hard to reach places like the nose, lungs and stomach. These cameras are often critical to reduce the need for invasive surgery by using their long reach to extract items or collect samples under anaesthetic.
Diagnostic Radiology (X-ray)
The Village Vet has on-site digital radiology (x-ray) operated by fully trained, professional staff for immediate and accurate medical diagnostics and hospital-level treatment.
On-site digital radiology delivers immediate high-quality results. These facilities are critical to quickly identifying and treating patients with fractures, trauma, ingestion of foreign bodies and other disease processes.
Ultrasound: Abdominal and Echocardiography
On-site ultrasound equipment is a critical diagnostic tool for our trained Veterinarians when identifying medical issues presenting with abdominal or thoracic fluid, tumours, foreign bodies and various organ diseases. With instant results, this means treatment at The Village Vet is swift and proactive. Echocardiography allows us to identify heart diseases and the causes of heart murmurs.
Pregnancy Ultrasonography
All new mothers need the best care and The Village Vet here to provide regular health and medical check-ups for pregnant pets.
Prescriptions & Medicines
We prioritize the use of safe and effective medications from reputable pharmaceutical companies. Our team stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine to offer your pets the best available treatment options. Whether it’s for preventive care, chronic conditions, or acute illnesses, you can trust us to provide the most suitable medications for your pet’s well-being.
While we promote this every November, we lend our support to World Antimicrobial Awareness Week. This is the recognition by our veterinary practice that over use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and antip arasitics) leads to drug resistance. Misuse and overuse of antimicrobials are the main drivers in the development of drug-resistant pathogens.
