Preventative Health Checks, Vaccinations & Nutrition

When it comes to keeping your pets healthy, prevention is the key. Early diagnosis is critical to disease prevention.  The Village Vet have full, on-site laboratory and diagnostic equipment to assist our professional team when assessing the health and wellbeing of your pets

Preventative Health Checks

A health check consultation includes a full physical examination with enough time for you to ask as many questions as you need. Regular health checks are crucial for detecting potential issues early and maintaining your pet’s overall well-being. Our thorough examinations cover everything from nose to tail, addressing any concerns and offering personalized recommendations for your pet’s unique needs.

We recommend your pet undergoes a thorough health check each year, though more frequent exams are encouraged, particularly for older aged pets.

Routine exams help our team develop a complete picture of your pet’s health. Along with a physical exam and routine laboratory tests, we may also ask you about your pet’s behaviour at home, his or her diet and lifestyle and other questions. This helps us evaluate potential health care issues your pet may face.

Vaccinations

At The Village Vet, we tailor vaccination plans based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and health history, ensuring they receive the necessary immunizations to lead a long and healthy life.

Dogs are advised to vaccinate annually with a C5 vaccination:  Parvovirus, Distemper, Infectious Hepatitis and Bordatell and Parainfluena (canine cough).  We also vaccinate against Leptospirosis where suitable.

Cats are advised to vaccinated annually with an F3 vaccination but also optionally can be given an FIV and/or Feline Leukaemia vaccination.  This is particularly relevant for cats that venture outdoors as these diseases are spread via cat fights.

Dietary and Nutritional Counselling

The Village Vet staff are fully trained in nutrition and dietary needs of domestic pets.  Food plans will depend on their age, breed and any specific health conditions. Whether you have a puppy, kitten, adult dog, or senior cat, we have nutritional solutions to support their well-being through every stage of their lives.

We provide weight consults at the clinic which includes weight management techniques/plans and nutritional advice.

The Village Vet has taken time to research nutrition options for your pets.  We only sell vet-recommended food at our Pet Food and Supplies Shop.

As a pet owner you should be aware that the Australian pet food industry is self-regulated. This makes your involvement in your pet’s food choices extremely important.  Our staff are trained on reading labels, understanding ingredients and advising what is best for your pet.  Our blog post explains what this means for you and your pet’s health: https://thevillagevet.com.au/pet-food-standard-and-regulations/

Parasite Prevention and Control

Keep your pets safe from harmful parasites requires ongoing, preventative measures. There is no “off season” for ticks in Ku-ring-gai and we highly recommend always keeping your tick prevention medication up to date.

We offer effective solutions for flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, and other common parasites that can affect your pet’s health.

You can purchase your products in clinic or from our online shop.  Either way, we will send you a reminder when your pet’s next dose is due.
