All surgeries are supported with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, C02 monitors, patient warming devices, surgical facilities and cautery whilst caring, qualified veterinarians and veterinary nurses take care of your pet.

We know that surgery can be a stressful experience for you and your pet. Our team work to hard to keep your pet comfortable and safe during all procedures. Our services include comprehensive before and after care and we are always happy to answer any questions you may have.  

Desexing

Age-appropriate desexing is conducted in-clinic by fully qualified, caring and experienced Veterinarians.

1. Spaying (Ovariohysterectomy) for Females:

Spaying is a common procedure that involves the removal of the ovaries and uterus in female pets. This not only prevents unwanted pregnancies but also reduces the risk of certain health issues, including uterine infections and mammary tumours. 

2. Neutering (Castration) for Males:

Neutering involves the removal of the testicles in male pets. This procedure not only prevents unplanned litters but also curbs undesirable behaviours such as roaming, aggression, and marking territory. It can also prevent certain health issues like testicular cancer.  Medical (reversible) castration options are also available. 

Orthopaedics and Advanced Surgical Procedures
The Village Vet staff are fully qualified and experienced at conducting a range of surgeries including (but not limited to) cruciate ligament repairs, dislocations and fracture repairs.

We have a team of visiting orthopaedic veterinary specialists for advanced surgical cases and these are handled on a case-by-case basis.   

All staff – both The Village Vet and visiting specialists – work with our state-of-the-art surgical, laboratory and diagnostic equipment.  They will remain in consultation with you, the pet owner at all times. 

Soft Tissue Surgeries

Soft tissue surgery (such as tumour removal, Cystotomy or hernia repairs etc) may be required to improve the quality of life for our pets, alleviate pain, and address health issues that may impact their overall well-being. 

Prior to surgery, thorough diagnostic evaluations, including imaging studies and laboratory tests, are typically performed to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate surgical planning.  All this can be done on-site at The Village Vet.

As with any surgical procedure, postoperative care is crucial. Our team of caring veterinarians and vet nurses provide pain management, monitoring, and follow-up care to promote a smooth recovery process for the animal. Regular check-ups and preventive care can help identify potential soft tissue issues early, allowing for timely intervention and treatment.

Ophthalmic (Eye) Surgeries

Ophthalmic surgery refers to surgical procedures that are related to the eyes and the surrounding structures. These surgeries may be performed by either our qualified veterinarians or a visiting veterinary ophthalmologists or specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions in animals. Ophthalmic surgery may be necessary to address a variety of issues affecting the eyes including injuries, diseases, and congenital conditions. 

Regular eye examinations by a veterinarian can help identify issues early on, potentially preventing the need for more extensive surgical interventions. 

Anaesthesia

Anaesthesia is an important part of our surgical protocols. During surgery, a trained veterinary nurse monitors your pet and keeps close watch on his or her vital signs. Our state-of-the-art operating theatre can administer oxygen throughout the procedure leading to faster recovery times and better outcomes for your pet.  During surgery, your pet’s safety is our priority. 

Pain Management

Animals cannot tell us where they are feeling pain or how much pain they are experiencing.  For this reason, relying on your veterinarian’s experience and training is essential to managing their pain correctly.  Our experienced team can assess your pet and their reactions to help them and you, through this difficult time.
