Meet Dr Martine Perkins from the Village Vet Team

Dr Martine Perkins BVSc (Syd Hons) MANZCVS MRCV

The Village Vet Founder & Senior Veterinarian

Dr Martine Perkins has 30 years of experience as a veterinarian, with a focus on complex medical cases and a whole-health approach to patient care. She is deeply committed to building long-term relationships with both pets and their owners, believing the best outcomes come from trust, continuity, and truly understanding each individual patient.

Martine’s areas of expertise include small animal medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, and chemotherapy, with a strong interest in medical diagnostics and ultrasound.

Martine completed advanced fellowship training in canine and feline medicine at the University of Sydney and spent seven years as a Senior Medical Registrar at the Sydney University Specialist Centre, thereby bringing specialist-level insight into general practice care. She has also published several journal articles in her areas of interest.

Supporting healthy ageing in pets is central to Martine’s philosophy. She takes a multimodal, individualised approach to care, recognising that no two pets, or families, are the same, and that wellness plans should be tailored to each patient’s medical needs, lifestyle, and personality.

Martine oversees radioactive iodine therapy for feline hyperthyroidism at The Sydney Hyperthyroid Cat Hospital, based at The Village Vet’s Killara clinic, providing cats with access to gold-standard treatment in a calm, supportive environment.

As The Village Vet has grown, Martine has found great fulfilment in mentoring and training her team to uphold the clinic’s philosophy of compassionate, high-quality care. She is passionate about fostering a collaborative environment where learning is continuous and standards are high. Outside of work, Martine enjoys spending time with her family, keeping active, and being outdoors. At home, she shares life with her rescue pug Doug and elderly rescue cat Hugo.
