How has The Village Vet supported your development as a nurse?
Giving me opportunities and support to build & expand technical skills
Working with vets who are generous with their time and knowledge
What do you enjoy most about being part of the nursing team here?
There are many things, but I particularly enjoy being involved in medical cases. As a team, we share knowledge and discuss medical cases which helps all of us build our knowledge.
We’re lucky to have access to advanced equipment and technology that many clinics don’t. This allows us to provide some niche services e.g SCCH. How has this helped you in your role or made your work more rewarding?
I do love the tech we get to work with, it means we get more in depth exposure to more complex cases. We have access to pathology tech that can give us faster diagnosis of certain conditions (eg vcheck, Imagyst) which translates to earlier treatment for our patients (when appropriate). Being able to offer radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroid cats through SHCH is particularly satisfying as it is most often a curative. When we follow up these patients after they go home, it’s great to hear how much they’ve improved.
How would you describe the culture at The Village Vet?
We are a very supportive team. It can be a challenging job but we are all there for each other and it makes all the difference. Collectively, we all want what is best for the patients in our care, it’s why we do what we do.
